Clear Skin, Clean Meals & No Gym? How I Rebuilt My Routine on a Budget

Step-by-step skincare routine for healthy, radiant skin
Glow starts with good habits

Okay sharp — so boom πŸ’₯…

There I was, googling “how to get clear skin fast” while boiling samp and editing my trades 😭. My bonnet was fighting for its life and my skin? Breaking out like load shedding stage 6.

I had no gym membership, no 10-step routine, and no expensive juicer. But I was tired — tired of low energy, low self-esteem, and low bank balance.

So I decided to glow up the budget-friendly way: through consistent skincare, home workouts, and clean eating that didn’t break me or my wallet.

Let me show you how I did it, so you can do it too.

✨ Step 1: A Simple Skincare Routine for Real People

You don’t need a shelf full of products — just the basics done well. My skin is oily and acne-prone, so I kept it clean, light and consistent.

Morning Routine

  1. Gentle Cleanser – think CeraVe or Garnier (under R150)
  2. Toner – like The Ordinary Glycolic Acid (2-3x a week)
  3. Moisturiser – lightweight gel-based like Neutrogena Hydro Boost
  4. Sunscreen – Non-negotiable. I use Eucerin SPF 50 for oily skin

Evening Routine

  1. Wash away the day — double cleanse if you wear makeup
  2. Apply treatment (salicylic acid or niacinamide)
  3. Deep moisturise — sometimes I add rosehip oil for glow

πŸ’§ Pro Tip: Drink at least 2L of water daily. Your glow starts from inside.

Step 2: Home Workouts That Burn Fat and Boost Mood

Let’s be honest — gyms are expensive, and the intimidation is real. I stuck to 30-minute home workouts that didn’t require fancy equipment.

 Sample Workout (Repeat 3 Rounds)

  • 15 squats
  • 10 pushups (or wall pushups)
  • 20 walking lunges
  • 30-sec plank
  • Jumping jacks for 1 min

🎧  Blast amapiano or a hustle podcast to stay motivated while working out.

πŸ’‘ You don’t need gym shark gear to show up. Show up in your doek if you have to.

Step 3: Eating for Energy, Skin & Focus

Your body is literally built from the food you eat. I ditched sugar bombs and switched to whole, easy foods that made me feel good (without leaving me broke).

What I Eat in a Day:

  • Breakfast: Oats with banana + 2 boiled eggs
  • Snack: Apple & a handful of almonds
  • Lunch: Grilled chicken, brown rice, veggies
  • Dinner: Sweet potatoes + lean beef or spinach
  • Drinks: Water, rooibos, lemon water

Supplements I take: Omega 3 (for brain + skin), probiotics, and multivitamins.

🚫 I avoid: processed sugar, greasy fried food, and dairy during breakout season.

Final Thoughts: Confidence is a Daily Decision

This lifestyle isn’t about having it all together. It’s about choosing yourself every day — even when it’s hard, even when you’re broke, even when the scale doesn’t move.

Clear skin? That came from patience.

Strength? That came from showing up.

Peace? That came from putting myself first.
