Dry? Oily? Sensitive? If You’re All Three, Read This Before You Quit Skincare

Glowing skin routine featuring a detox face mask for acne-prone skin
Your skin type decides the products not tick tock

If you’ve ever stood in a skincare aisle staring at 10 different cleansers wondering, “Wait… do I even know my skin type?” — you’re not alone 😩.

I used to think I had oily skin because I was always shiny. Turns out, I was just dehydrated — and using all the wrong products.

In this post, I’ll help you:

  • Figure out what your skin type really is
  • Stop wasting money on the wrong stuff
  • Learn which products actually work for YOU — not the girl on TikTok

🧴The 5 Main Skin Types

1.

Normal Skin

  • Balanced, no major breakouts or dryness
  • Feels soft and smooth most days
  • Minimal shine

What to use: Gentle cleansers, light moisturizers, and SPF.

Don’t overcomplicate it — your skin is chill 😌.

2.

Dry Skin

  • Feels tight after washing
  • Looks flaky or dull
  • Often gets irritated during winter

Try:

  • Creamy cleansers
  • Thick moisturizers with ceramides or shea butter
  • Hydrating toners (alcohol-free!)

3.

Oily Skin

  • Shiny by midday (especially in the T-zone)
  • Prone to blackheads or breakouts
  • Makeup slides off easily

Try:

  • Gel cleansers
  • Oil-free moisturizers
  • Niacinamide or clay masks weekly

4.

Combination Skin

  • Oily in the T-zone, dry on the cheeks
  • Breakouts and flakes — ugh!

Try:

  • Gentle cleanser
  • Use different products for different areas (yes, it’s allowed!)
  • Lightweight SPF

5.

Sensitive Skin

  • Gets red or itchy easily
  • Reacts to fragrance or alcohol
  • Burning or tingling after product use

Try:

  • Fragrance-free everything
  • Patch test always
  • Ingredients like aloe vera, Centella Asiatica, or oat extract

How to Test Your Skin Type at Home

  1. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser
  2. Don’t apply any product
  3. Wait 1 hour
  4. Observe how your skin feels and looks:
    • Shiny? Probably oily
    • Tight or itchy? Dry
    • Shiny in T-zone only? Combo
    • Red or irritated? Sensitive
    • None of the above? Normal!
